Breast reduction surgery is a popular procedure for women with disproportionately large breasts that are a source of physical, quality of life, and self-esteem issues. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Lichten offers breast reduction surgery in Columbus for women who want smaller, shapelier, and perkier breasts and relief from the issues caused by large breasts.
Issues Caused by Large Breasts
Women with large, heavy breasts often are familiar with neck and back pain, bra strap indentations on the shoulders, rashes under the breasts, and general upper-body discomfort. Some women with large breasts even find exercise and an active lifestyle exceptionally uncomfortable.
Dr. Lichten also understands that large breasts may cause problems with self-esteem, especially in young women. Breast reduction can help Southeast Ohio and Columbus area women substantially improve both their physical and emotional health.
An effective breast reduction surgery can also lift breasts and firm them up, giving your body a more youthful appeal. The procedure helps bras fit better and look better, and it can even lead to a more desirable silhouette. Breast reduction may also correct large nipples or overly stretched areolae in some cases.
“Dr. Lichten and his staff are the best. I came from Florida for my breast reduction surgery because I didn’t trust anyone but Dr. Lichten. He did not disappoint. My results exceeded my expectations. I’m so happy, I only wish I had done this ten years ago! You won’t be disappointed choosing Dr. Lichten. He’s the best!”
“Dr Lichten and his staff are some of the best!! – Lancaster, OH
Dr Lichten and his whole staff are beyond amazing. My whole life I had always been larger chested. As I have grown and had two children my chest only grew and it was really taking a toll on my body. As a 30 year old my posture was awful, my back was always aching and I was constantly getting head aches. I tried chiropractors but they were only a temporary relief and wanted me there 3 times a week. I had been on prescriptions for my head aches but nothing was helping. Even just standing to do dishes or sitting to fold laundry I would get horrible back aches. The day I got out of surgery I felt an immediate difference in my posture. It has been over 6 months since my surgery and I have not had a headache or any back pain at all!! Not only is the surgery a tremendous difference in my body physically but my self esteem has improved so much. Having the breast reduction surgery truly has been life changing. Dr Lichten is one of the best doctors I have ever met! He not only made me feel welcome and comfortable but he really listens and cared about me as a patient as far as not only my needs but what I was hoping for. He has some of the best staff you will ever experience. Each and everyone of them have helped contribute to always having exceptional care. Dr Lichten and his staff truly are some of the best!!!”
Breast Reduction Before & Afters
Ohio Breast Reduction Candidates
Although the appearance of overly large breasts is a concern for some women, most women considering breast reduction are seeking physical relief of upper body discomfort. You need to know all about the benefits and potential drawbacks of breast reduction to be a highly-informed candidate. Dr. Lichten performs breast reduction for young women once their breasts have finished growing. If you plan on nursing after the procedure, talk with Dr. Lichten in more detail to find out if your ability to breastfeed could be compromised in any way.
Your Breast Reduction Consultation
During the consultation, Dr. Lichten may request a mammogram before the breast reduction surgery to check for anomalies or breast cancer. He will measure your breasts against the rest of your frame. The two of you will talk about your medical history, any pre-existing health conditions, and your goals for your breast appearance and size after the surgery. Photos will be taken for your medical record.
Dr. Lichten will also ask you about your smoking habits, because you will need to avoid smoking before and after surgery to ensure a proper recovery. He will also tell you to temporarily avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Further instructions on what to do before and after the procedure will be provided.
The Breast Reduction Procedure
Breast reduction is both a cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery procedure for Columbus women that creates breasts which are smaller, lighter and more proportionate to the body. Self-confidence and comfort may be restored after breast reduction surgery. As with a breast lift, incisions need to be made on the breast but the resulting scars are well hidden in clothing or a bathing suit.
After tissue has been removed and the remaining tissue has been tightened, Dr. Lichten will put sutures deep within the breast tissue to support the breasts’ new shape. He will use skin adhesives, sutures, or surgical tape to close the incisions.
Breast reduction is one of the most transformative Columbus cosmetic surgery procedures Dr. Lichten performs – the most common complaint he hears is that patients wish they had their surgery sooner.
Breast Reduction Recovery
Swelling and bruising are to be expected following breast reduction surgery. Patients may experience some discomfort during the first few days of the recovery process. A special surgical bra will need to be worn to provide support. Patients are able to return to work after about two weeks of recovery. Some light exercise can be resumed after around four weeks, but patients will need to avoid strenuous activity for around six weeks.
Breast Reduction Cost
Breast reduction is a highly personalized procedure. The price of breast reduction varies between patients based on their unique needs and desired results. Central Ohio Plastic Surgery offers financing options to help cover the cost for our patients. Payment and financing options can be addressed during the consultation process.
There are some circumstances under which insurance will cover breast reduction surgery. If you want to pursue an insurance breast reduction surgery, we will need a referral from the physician who has been treating you for the symptoms you are experiencing as a result of having oversized breasts.
The referral will need to include:
- A copy of the front and back of your insurance card
- Your height and weight (insurance requires that your body mass index be below 30).
- A list of symptoms (rashes, neck pain, back pain, shoulder grooving, etc.) and the conservative treatments you have tried to resolve them (chiropractor visits, physical therapy, creams, etc.)
We will not be able to schedule an appointment for you until we have received all of these items.
It is your responsibility to contact your insurance plan prior to your consultation to ask, “Is breast reduction surgery excluded from my plan?”
After your consultation, if you and Dr. Lichten decide to move forward with the surgery, you will be contacted by our office to gather the information required for insurance documentation.
