Body Contouring & Body Reshaping After Weight Loss

Conveniently located to serve Columbus, Lancaster, Pickerington, and Canal Winchester

When people lose a large amount of weight in a relatively short period of time, particularly after bariatric weight loss surgery, they usually are left with vast amounts of excess skin. The weight loss associated with bariatric surgery is life-changing, improving a patient’s overall health by losing a hundred pounds or more. Unfortunately, this leaves the patient “wearing” skin that fits his or her old body but doesn’t reflect the dramatic changes bariatric surgery provides.

Through a specialized combination of Columbus, Ohio, plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures, Dr. Lichten is able to contour your body and “tailor” your skin to fit the new you. This is accomplished the same way that you tailor your clothes, but instead of inserting a pleat, the excess skin is removed and stitched back together. The trade off is scars in the areas where the skin is removed.

“After losing close to 140 pounds, I needed a tummy tuck. Honestly, I never thought I could afford one or actually go through with it. But just so I could be informed, I met with a couple of plastic surgeons for consults. Dr. Lichten was my last and I knew right away that having the TT was the absolute right decision for me and that he was the best board-certified surgeon for the job. He had that combination of excellent credentials and bedside manner everyone wants. I completely trusted him and I was right to do so. My results are amazing. He made being active and wearing clothes fun again; more importantly, his surgical artistry changed how I feel about staying fit and keeping the weight off. He’s the best.”

“50 year old mother of 1 felt that her stomach was “loose” and that her “clothes don’t fit properly.” She complained that her “stomach was in my way during activities.” After surgery, she feels her “Results are amazing – much better than expected. My stomach has never been this flat, even in high school.” She said Dr. Lichten “and staff have been phenomenal; very supportive though entire process.” She gave her experience and the results a 5/5.”

Dr. Lichten works to make scarring as minimal as possible, but scars are an inevitable tradeoff for an improved body contour and the ability to fit into your new clothes comfortably. Depending on your areas of concern, post-bariatric body contouring often requires multiple surgeries for your skin to fit your reduced body size. Here are a few of the procedures commonly performed after significant weight loss:

Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

Excess skin on the upper arms is often an undesirable effect of significant weight loss. Upper arm skin may become loose and begin to sag simply because of age, but also commonly occurs in patients who have had bariatric surgery. Dr. Lichten performs brachioplasty to help correct these cosmetic issues by removing the excess skin beneath the arms and tightening the flabby tissue as well. Excess fat in the upper arms also may be addressed by a Columbus liposuction procedure.

Thigh Lift

Similar to other plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures such as an arm lift and a tummy tuck, the thigh lift serves to tone sagging skin and flabby tissue following major weight loss. Again, excess skin is removed and replaced by scars. By surgically removing excess skin and tissue, the thighs may become trimmer and more contoured. If you suffer from sagging, bulging, unattractive skin on your thighs, you might be an excellent candidate for a thigh lift with or without liposuction.
