This 38-year-old woman underwent treatment bilateral breast reconstruction through TRAM flap reconstruction. She had previously underwent partial mastectomy and radiation on the left breast 2 years earlier. After discovering a second breast cancer in her right breast, genetic testing found her to be BRCA +. She decided to have bilateral mastectomies and Dr. Lichten was able to reconstruct her breasts at the same operation using the skin, fat and muscles from her abdomen (the tissue which is removed during a tummy tuck).
She is shown here 8 months after her original surgery after having a second procedure to reconstruct her nipple areolar complex.
