Central Ohio Plastic Surgery is excited that Dr. Jason Lichten was one of the first injectors in the country to be able to offer Juvéderm Volbella, Juvéderm Vollure and Restylane Silk. Although fillers have been used to enhance lips for years, Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Volbella were the first fillers approved by the FDA specifically designed to treat your lips and the surrounding lines (sometimes called smokers’ lines). Because they are thinner formulas delivered through a smaller needle, it enables plastic surgeons like Dr. Lichten to inject with more precision, creating a more natural look.
In the past, some of our patients have been hesitant to treat the lip area because of the fake-looking full lips of many Hollywood celebrities (think Goldie Hawn in First Wives Club). Developments in technology have evolved to enable plastic surgeons like Dr. Lichten to create a soft, natural improvement and restore definition in the cupid’s bow at the top of the mouth. The can restore balance and a soft smooth look to this sensitive area. Juvéderm Volbella and Vollure are the latest members of the Juvéderm family of facial fillers. They can give subtle volume in the lips and to soften the appearance of vertical lines around the lips, also called “perioral rhytids.”
How is Volbella that different than other products?
Volbella is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid (HA), which occurs naturally in the body. HA is also in the main ingredient in Juvederm and Restylane. Although the primary ingredient in Volbella is HA, unlike the other fillers, however, Volbella uses Vycross technology which blends different molecular weights of the HA, which has been shown to increase the duration of the gel. In addition, Volbella has a customized formulation that uses a lower concentration of HA, while still providing a longer duration. This is the same technology found in Juvéderm Vollure and Juvéderm Voluma for cheekbones, but Volbella is specifically designed for the lips.
Volbella is the most subtle of the injectable lip fillers. Some patients think of it as a “starter lip.” It is ideal for patients who are looking for an understated change or those who are having lip injections for the first time.
What is the down time for Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Volbella?
As with any injection, you will be able to return to work immediately. You may, however, experience some bruising, swelling or puffiness. All are temporary, however, if you have a special event coming up, we strongly recommend that you schedule your injections at least 2-3 weeks before the event.
How long does it last?
Restylane Silk lasts approximately 6 months and Juvéderm Volbella can last up to a year
How do I get it?

How do I know if my doctor is qualified to perform my injections?
No one can guarantee your results. You can, however, ensure that your doctor has had the right training, by confirming that s/he is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Although many physicians claim to be board certified, you should confirm their specialty. In addition, you can gain comfort if your doctor is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The ASPS confirms plastic surgeons’ background training and education. In addition, they ensure that the doctor keeps up on the latest medical developments and research.
